Spring term 2020

(Please note that there is a half term break on 18th February.)

Theme: This term we'll be working towards developing strength and stamina in the arms, legs and back, as well as keeping mobile through the winter months.

Who the classes are for

These are classes for those who wish to use yoga practices to promote good health and well-being.  These are not 'sink or swim' classes and 'no pain no gain' has no place here!  These sessions are for you to find ways of maintaining and moving your own body in a way that is appropriate for your individual structure.  The classes are also suitable for those who are interested in the philosophy that underpins yoga practice.

The pace is slow and steady to enable you to develop increased self-awareness.  Sessions will be both challenging and at the same time nurturing for all levels of ability.  That includes the fit and well, as well as those dealing with stress-related conditions, injuries, rehabilitation, back pain, menopause, post-natal, arthritis, and managing other health conditions.  Emphasis is on exploration and mindful awareness of of the body, breath and sensation, incorporating mental and perceptual aspects of movement.

These classes will help you develop a deeper understanding of your body's structure and how it moves.  As well as building strength and flexibility you will also explore fitness of the fascial system and what that means in exercise and in everyday life.  You will have an opportunity to play with your perception of your body, and how you relate to the ground, to gravity, to the space around you and to your personal stories and attitudes.  This work helps lead us out of fixed patterns of habitual movement which often leads to poor posture and puts strain on the system, both physically and mentally.  You will be well looked after as you practice and given guidance to help you work safely and effectively.

Yoga is available to everyone as a toolbox for life, as long as you find an appropriate practice to suit your needs.  Andrea welcomes all ages, genders and all levels of experience to the group, including stiff or nervous beginners.  Termly themed courses are available to book in advance, or you can come along on a drop-in basis if you prefer.

Please call Andrea on 07867 488561 if unsure of your suitability (do leave a message on the voicemail if you'd like a call back).

What to expect - click here

Regular practice of yoga and expert guidance is needed to see progress.  For this reason, booking a course of classes is recommended.

The venue is part of Holymead Primary School which is on Wick Road.  The entrance to The Hub is on Rossall Road.  Go through the blue gates, turn left at the yellow fence, and you will find the entrance to the Hub on your left.  Parking is available in the surrounding streets (no RPZ).

Please bring a mat to work on - a yoga mat, exercise mat, or camping mat.  Also bring a blanket to cover up for the relaxation at the end.

"Andrea's class was a welcome invitation to drop the baggage of my day and rest into myself, to be moved from my breath to discover and explore the parts of my body which habitually hold me, to counter the pressures of everyday life." WW
