New course beginning October 2024
BWY Foundation Course Join myself and Tracy Harris on this structured online course which will take you on a journey of yoga exploration. With a focus on your own personal yoga practice, you will learn how to put together safe and balanced short practices for yourself at home, how to maintain motivation, and how to adapt your practice to your needs and life circumstances. Over the 9 months of the course, you will have the opportunity to delve more deeply into a wide variety of yoga practices including some not usually covered in weekly yoga classes. You will explore yoga history and key aspects of yoga philosophy and theory. Following the BWY FC1 syllabus, the course provides a comprehensive grounding in basic practical yoga techniques, in the context of the philosophy that underpins yoga. Who the course is for This course is ideal for you if you wish to refine your home practice and broaden your understanding of yoga. Physical limitations do NOT preclude full participation in the course. Anyone curious to know more about yoga is welcome to apply. The only essential requirement for application is that you have attended weekly yoga classes for at least 2 years as a minimum. You will need a computer and internet connection, and a suitable private space for the group study days. You will also need to get BWY membership if not already a member. The course is also an essential preparation for anyone considering embarking upon yoga teacher training, focusing first on your own practice before starting to teach others. This course is a pre-requisite for most BWY teacher training courses. Qualified teachers who would like to revise topics and spend some time focusing on their own personal practice are also welcome. Homework You will keep a home practice diary throughout for self-reflection and as a record of your development during the course. You will be given support and coaching from your tutor to help you refine and expand your practice and to stay on track with your yoga explorations. Reading from the course book (The Heart of Yoga by TKV Desikachar) will also be given for homework as a start point for discussion in the group. Coursework The home study element of the course (1-1.5 hours per month) will give you flexibility in terms of when and how you study. Study days will take place monthly on Saturdays 9.15am-1.30pm on Zoom. There will also be monthly Wednesday evening Zoom sessions with myself on Wednesdays 6-7.30pm. Zoom will be used creatively so that you have the chance to practice guided yoga, ask questions, discuss yoga topics, and connect with others on the course in a safe and supportive space. Working via Zoom also keeps costs down by eliminating travel and accommodation expenses. Course fees £600 plus £60 BWY course registration fee.
