What to expect from your yoga classes
The classes consist of a mindful asana (yoga posture) practice, focusing on maintaining health, developing strength and flexibility, deepening body awareness, freeing the breath, healing, managing stress, and the simple enjoyment of moving your body. Sessions end with a guided deep relaxation exercise.
The practices are adaptable to include all levels of physical ability and disability. Everyone works together, each at their own level. All ages (18 - 98) and body types are welcome to join the group.

What to bring
The basic essentials to bring are a yoga mat and a blanket. If you have a yoga block you can bring that too. Wear loose or stretchy clothing that allows freedom of movement, and nothing tight around the waist. T-shirt and leggings or jogging bottoms are perfect. It's a good idea to wear layers to be adaptable to your changing body temperature as we work.
It's best to practice yoga on an empty stomach, having only a light snack at least an hour beforehand. It's best not to drink water during the practice - have a glass of water before the class and another one after to avoid dehydration. Exceptions to this are in very hot weather, or if you have a health condition that needs regular sips of water, in which case bring a bottle of water with you.

Who the classes are for
These are classes for those who wish to use yoga practices to promote good health and well-being. These are not 'sink or swim' classes and 'no pain no gain' has no place here!
These sessions are for you to find ways of maintaining and moving your own body in a way that is appropriate for your individual structure. The classes are also suitable for those who are interested in the philosophy that underpins yoga practice.
The pace is slow and steady to enable you to develop increased self-awareness. Sessions will be both challenging and at the same time nurturing for all levels of ability. That includes the fit and well, as well as those dealing with stress-related conditions, injuries, rehabilitation, back pain, menopause, post-natal, arthritis and managing other health conditions. Emphasis is on exploration and awareness of of the body, breath and sensation, developing acceptance and a calm mind.
These classes will help you develop a deeper understanding of your body's structure and how it moves. You will be well looked after as you practice and given guidance to help you work safely and effectively. You will build strength and flexibility which have direct effects on your health. You will also explore fitness of the fascial system and what that means in exercise and in everyday life. You will have an opportunity to play with perception of your body, and how you relate to the ground, to gravity, to the space around you and to your personal stories and attitudes. This work helps lead us out of fixed patterns of habitual movement which often leads to poor posture and puts strain on the system, both physically and mentally.
Yoga is available to everyone as a toolbox for life, as long as you find an appropriate practice to suit your needs. Andrea welcomes adults of all ages and all levels of experience to the group, including stiff or nervous beginners.
Always follow the advice given by your doctor or other healthcare professional. New students will be asked to complete a health questionnaire. Andrea is available before and after class, or on the phone, to give specific guidance on caring for your injury or ailment in your yoga practice.
Please email [email protected] if you would like to arrange a chat with Andrea on the phone.
