What to expect from your yoga classes

The type of yoga taught is hatha and raja yoga.  You will be guided through a general programme of yoga postures (asana), breathing exercises and a deep relaxation.

Although hatha yoga focuses mainly on postures and breathing exercises, yoga is a holistic discipline.  It is not only a physical practice, but also improves mental and spiritual health.  This approach will be reflected in your lessons.

The content of each lesson will be different, building on the previous lessons of the term.  You will not be coerced into do anything that you don’t want to do in class!  You will always be given the option to sit quietly out of any exercise or given an alternative if a posture is inappropriate for you.

The class will consist of a mixture of people with differing ages, abilities and experience of yoga.  All are welcome.  Yoga is not competitive and individuals will be working at their own level within the class.  If the class doesn't suit you I will be happy to suggest other teachers in the area who might better cater for your needs and preferences.

If you have a particular condition or illness, please discuss this with me.  If I am aware of your problem I will be able to give you specific advice regarding your yoga.  I will be able to include some postures and exercises in lessons that will be particularly beneficial to you and I will be able to give relevant modifications of postures if I am aware of the specific problems of the students in my classes.  All information given will of course remain confidential.  Pregnant women are very welcome, but pleaseThe British Wheel of YOGA discuss this with me first before coming to class.

I am generally available at the end of class, and briefly at the beginning of class.  If you wish to talk privately, please telephone.
