Yoga Teacher Training

There are just three spaces left on my next teacher training course beginning in Bristol in March 2012.  This will be the new level 4 BWYQ qualification.  An application pack is available containing full information.

If you are interested in applying, please email andrea@yogauk.com to request an application pack.  There are two induction days on 22nd October and 3rd December (if you have missed these please get in touch to discuss how you can catch up).

Below is some initial information about the course, along with some feedback and advice from previous students.

“The course has given me the belief in myself which accompanies me as I carry out my teaching.  It has also given me a direction, a new path to take me onto a new stage in my life.”  Jean     Click here for more feedback and advice from previous students

Students in teacher training workshopOn entering this 3-year course, we begin a journey together.  I see my role not only as course tutor but also as one of support and guidance as you go through the process of becoming a yoga teacher.

“Andrea is an extremely focused and approachable tutor, whose help and support is always to hand.”  Mike

You are encouraged to start teaching towards the end of the first year of training.  After that time the course becomes an invaluable support as you begin to teach.

“I am really pleased that we were encouraged to teach from the beginning because learning ‘on the job’ was the most beneficial for me.”  Jean

I find that by spacing the study days a month or so apart this gives time and space to develop skills and ideas.  As with any journey it will have its highs and lows, and will undoubtedly be hard work.  It is however hugely rewarding, and will take you further along the road of self-discovery.

“I feel that the length of the course was about right as I needed time to integrate the learning in an unhurried way.  The monthly support from the tutor and the group was very important.”  Karen

My yoga teacher training course follows the syllabus of the British Wheel of Yoga Teaching Diploma and is verified by the BWY and BWYQ.  This is a 'Level 4' qualification - click here to find out more about what that means. There will be eight study weekends per year, totalling 300 hours.  There will also be personal tutorials, written homework and regular yoga practice in between study weekends.

“I was able to manage the volume of work required through discipline, not leaving it all to the last minute, spreading the homework over the month, asking for support from my ‘study buddy’, course peers and teacher, and making sure I had a quiet space to work.”  Karen

You are insured to teach once you are enrolled on the course and so can begin to earn money from your teaching. The course lasts for around three years, and on completion, students receive the BWY Diploma - see www.bwy.org.uk for details.

“I learnt the most from the presentations and teaching practice as you really have to do the research for these and have the confidence to stand up and talk/teach in front of people.”  Deb

The syllabus provides a sound framework for us to work with and provides opportunities for you to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding.  Each BWY Diploma Course Tutor (DCT) delivers this course slightly differently, depending on their own interests and experience. You are encouraged to teach in your own way, but it makes sense to find a tutor whose approach works for you as you will have to work together for 3 years.

Please look elsewhere on this website to find out more about my approach and interests.  If you are considering applying for this course and we have never worked together before, I invite you attend one of my yoga classes, or enrol on a workshop. It may also be possible for you to meet some of my current Diploma students (please ask).

“Andrea’s teaching style provokes discussion which makes the study days very interesting with lots of student interaction.  She is also very down-to-earth which is particularly helpful for the philosophy unit.”  Sue

The British Wheel of YOGAPrerequisites for this course are that you have been practising yoga with a qualified teacher for at least 3 years and that you have the BWY Foundation Course certificate (or equivalent).

I highly recommend that you do a BWY Foundation Course before applying for a Diploma Course, even as an experienced student. This course helps you to develop your own practice and orientate you on your own path before you go on to teaching others. It also gives you a taste of the style of learning before you commit to the full 3-year course.

If you don't have the BWY Foundation Course then please get in touch to discuss whether your existing yoga experience is sufficient to support your application for this teacher training course or whether you need to gain some additional experience before the course begins and how you might go about getting that.

“The Diploma course has given me a sense of achievement and a process for furthering personal development, which has resulted in the once implausible idea of teaching yoga, being plausible.”  Mike

If you have any questions about my teacher training course please get in touch for a chat.  If you are interested in applying for a place on the Diploma course, please request an application pack.
