One-off sessions are aimed at developing a personalised short-term and long-term strategy to help you better manage stress in your life and alleviate its harmful effects.

If you take the whole course, this consists of 8 fortnightly sessions, each lasting an hour.

Each session of the course focuses on one particular aspect of stress and stress management. Areas covered include:

  • the nature of stress
  • the effects of stress on your body
  • muscular tension
  • how relaxation training works
  • working with the breath
  • the nervous system
  • challenging negative thinking habits
  • examining your lifestyle

You will be given factual information about stress, its causes and effects. There are a number of questionnaires for you to fill in to help you look at your life in an objective way, and to be used for discussion and reflection. You will practice a guided relaxation exercise at each session.

Anything discussed during a one-to-one session will of course remain confidential. However it is not necessary for you to share your personal problems if you do not wish to.  This is a practical training course rather than counselling.
